What Do You Know About Share Extensions?

iOS8 and OS X Yosemite

Our team is constantly updating Outline on both platforms, so as to deliver more powerful opportunities, innovations and wide range of useful features. It’s time to learn about Share Extensions.

Extensions are powerful features that are designed to provide more functionality and usability to iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite. They take to the heights the interaction between apps, user experience and customization and bring new technologies and owners of Apple devices closer together. Undoubtedly, all these features amplify the iOS platform and make it more flexible.

And how does it work? Share Extensions allow to connect and share data between apps in several ways:

At first, now you can share various content from apps supporting data transfer in HTML, image or rich text formats. For example, you can insert web content from Safari browser to Outline pages and choose whether it will be whole page or only snippet. You just need to click on special Share button in the upper right corner of the window and then customize your Share Sheet using More option. Mac version of Outline supports import from Safari browser and Preview tool. iPad version allows to import data from Evernote, Notes or Image Gallery, besides the Safari.

Apple's Share Extensions

The second way of using Share Extensions is export your data in PDF format from Outline directly to other apps. Outline includes Share Menu for this purpose. Click the Share Menu icon, customize again your list of destination apps and choose an app where you would like to export your page. Finished! That was really easy, wasn’t it?

Outline

So, these were simple and effective ways of how you can use such major features of OS X and iOS 8 like Share Extensions with Outline apps. Our team is not going to be satisfied with what has already been achieved and working hard in order to provide more significant features and better performance. Keep an eye on our news to be sure you don’t miss major updates of Outline for Mac and iPad.

You are welcome to share your ideas with us! We truly value you feedback.

See you,

Outline Team.

Outline`s huge update – version 3.0 released!

Autumn is time of gathering in the harvest and we want to follow this tradition by presenting you the result of our long, hard, but fruitful work. So many days (and nights) of thinking, negotiating, implementing and improving have gone by, and here it is – Outline v.3.0 for iPad and Mac.

Outline

Everything you waited for from this update wants to be checked and used, wants to fulfill its destiny, so go and get started!

Create tables and hyperlinks; link information from page to page, connect different notebooks or make wiki links, everything is possible.

From now on both apps support attachments and allow you to work with PDF files. You can annotate such documents and save those files back to PDF, all annotations stay there. It is especially convenient in Outline for iPad with its new totally refashioned handwriting tool:

Annotations

The top-notch of Outline`s current release is its own file format, which provides it with a status of an independent note-taking application. Along with Dropbox syncing Outline file format makes the work smoother and faster. You should definitely give a try.

Outline can also set images as background – nice option for those who wants to leave comments right on a photo; type, write or draw over inserted images, enjoy the diversity!

Outline v.3.0 not only works nice, it also looks beautiful and supports newly presented iOS 8 and OS X Yosemite accordingly.

Microsoft OneNote compatibility, as well as Box, OneDrive and SharePoint sync are of course preserved, and Outline stays a friendly partner of OneNote.

Now we`re up to new deeds on the thorny, but such an exciting way of “outlining“! As always, we`re open to any ideas and suggestions for app improvements, and thanks a million to those who support us and believe in what we do!

It’s Official: Outline for Mac

Outline for Mac

We are so happy to announce that Outline for Mac will soon appear on the Mac App Store. It will be the first software that will enable to open and read OneNote files on a Mac. If you are a Mac user, you are forced to use virtual machines (like Parallels or VMWare) or Microsoft Web Apps to work with your OneNote notebooks. Outline is the first ever native MacOS software capable to work with OneNote files.

We’ll start with a reader that syncs via Dropbox, Box.com and iTunes with your Outline+ on iPad or MS OneNote, and then update the app with a rich-text editor.

Sign up to our newsletter on our special Outline for Mac page, and we’ll let you know when it is available.

Surface or iPad mini for OneNote?

Many people have been waiting for Surface to be the device for their OneNote notes. They expected it (and still expect) to work perfectly with OneNote as an in-field digital notebook for all their note-taking needs. After all, why not: they both are made by Microsoft and OneNote with Metro interface and the radial menu looks sooo nice.

Let’s see what they say on Twitter:

OneNote is my favorite tool. Cannot wait for my new surface on Friday.

OneNote is hands down my favorite #Office app. Using it on #Surfaceis gonna be sweet!

Waiting for my #surface. Where is my shipped email #Microsoft? Can’t wait to #OneNote on the fly!!

And many many more.

So what would you expect from a portable OneNote experience? Continue reading
